Paris, 17th-21st October 2003
A short break to see the sights. We spent a lot of time just wandering around
Arc de Triomphe
Jardin du Carrousel by the Louvre
Pigeons at the side of the Seine
Outside Notre Dame Cathedral
Approaching La Tour Eiffel
View from the tower
Looking up to the top of the tower from inside it
On the obsevation platform in the tower
Back at the bottom
La Tour Eiffel
Inside the Catacombs under Place Denfert Rochereau. Several of the city graveyards had filled to the point that they were overflowing, and by 1810 the decision was taken to exhume the bodies and rehouse them in the catacombs under the city. There are many kilometres of passageways
A ghoulish monster?
Walls of leg bones and skulls have been built up, lining the passages. The other bones have been dumped in a jumble in the space behind
There are various shrines for bones from different graveyards and sections
I found it really quite moving. We're all much the same in the end!
Back in our hotel room, still alive
The Sacre Coeur
Moulin Rouge. Prior to this we visited La Musee de l'Erotisme, which was quite interesting
Pyramide du Louvre
A sphynx
Venus de Milo
Winged Victory of Samothrace
Mona Lisa
Strolling through a gallery. The sheer scale of the Louvre is overwhelming. Jen was in her element, but I found it too much for my attention span!
The Three Graces
La Seine
Can't remember what this is!
Walking by the river again
Stained glass windows inside Cathédrale Notre Dame
The glass was really quite impressive, and much more vivid than it appears in our photos
Time to go home?
Getting a lift home from the airport with Mum and the pup
