Rum, 19th-21st July 2008
We had a long weekend on the Isle of Rum

This vehicle was in the car park in Mallaig, and I felt it deserved a free advert here

Arriving at Kinloch Castle. We had booked a room in the hostel - not slumming it for once!

In fact, we'd booked one of the rather grand Oak Rooms

Outside the village hall / cafe / shop / totem pole repository late on Saturday morning

Rum has plenty of midges for spiders to eat, but they weren't a problem this weekend (it was windy most of the time)

We headed up to the Rum Cuillin on Sunday. This is Hallival and Askival from Bealach Bairc-mheall

Approaching the summit of Trallval

Traversing under Trallval on return from Ainshval

Traversing round Atlantic Corrie; Ainshval and Trallval behind

Back at Bealach Bairc-mheall; Askival, Ainshval and Trallval behind

Outside Kinloch Castle on Monday, cloud pouring over the Rum Cuillin

We took a tour of Kinloch Castle before leaving the island. There are a lot of treasures to see. These hummingbirds belonged to the lady of the house, but unfortunately froze to death, so she had them stuffed and put in these cabinets!
